I have a simple rule about image generation.

If your prompt is the only way that you’re communicating with an image model, you’re missing out on 90% or more of what image generation can do.

In a previous post, I told you about style references—how you can transfer the overall look and feel of an uploaded image to one that you generate with AI. In this post, we’re going to look at Midjourney’s style codes.

Style codes are style references on steroids—a simple code that can capture the style from dozens of uploaded images and apply them to your image generation.

In this post, I’ll share ten of my favorite style codes with you. But first, let’s look at how style codes work and how you can use them.

What are Midjourney Style Codes?

Midjourney Mood Boards via Midjourney

Midjouney style codes are personalization codes that you can use to change the look and feel of your images without prompting.

There are a few ways that you can create and share Midjourney style codes:

  1. With personalization, which lets you rank the images you like best and then fine tunes Midjourney’s style to your preferences.
  2. With mood boards, which let you upload a set of reference images and then create images of a similar style.

You can learn more about profiles and mood boards from Midjourney’s blog.

All of the style codes I share below are created with mood boards using images I’ve curated with various styles.

How do I use a style code?

To use a style code that you’ve created or that someone has shared with you, simply paste the code to the end of the prompt. This works both on Discord and on web.

You can use multiple style codes in one image by including all of the codes after the profile tag.

Changing the stylization parameter with style codes increases the overall influence of those styles. Source: Midjourney.

You can adjust the overall influence of style codes with the stylization parameter. The stylization parameter ranges from 0 (weakest influence) to 1,000 (strongest influence). You can set this in your prompt or in the generation settings in the web interface.
